The challenge with buying a phone is that there is mostly likely a plan that will also need to be purchased. So not only did we need to educate our users about their phones, but we also needed to quickly educate them about the plans available and then select them

  1. To only make a user focus on one choice at a time
  2. To quickly allow the user to play around and try things
  3. For the module to be flexible to adapt with any phone but for the ui to also be familiar to users

We needed to create a module that could serve two purposes. Allow the user to configure their phones as well as select a plan for that phone

LEARNINGS
  1. The experience had to work for people buy a single phone as well as multiple phones at once
  2. We needed to communicate better about what stage of the buying process users were in
  3. Users wanted to undo any selection they have made at anytime without having to start the buyflow over

Cart Overlay
challenges
The cart had to carry a lot of weight in this user flow. We wanted to make it as easy for users to purchase as possible all the while encouraging them to buy accessories. Accessories were much more profitable than the phones.

LEARNINGS
  1. Users wanted to be able to edit their order directly in the cart
  2. Users did not know how to buy the second phone, until we put an explicit button in the cart.
  3. Users wanted to see the cost of shipping in the cart
